Sant Sai Satramdas Sahib always distributed offerings of gold, money, and other items to the poor and needy during his Bhakti and Satsangs.

Once, during a prayer and Bhakti Kirtan, a woman offered a beautifully embroidered cap with golden thread. Bhagat Sahib,
hid the cap thinking that he would not be noticed. After the program, when Sant Satramdas Sahib returned to Raharki Sahib, he asked Bhagat Sahib to return home and rest. Bhagat Sahib took the cap he had hidden and left for Jarwar. When he reached home, he developed a high fever that persisted for many days, despite medication. He eventually returned to Raharki Sahib and fell at the feet of Sant Satramdas Sahib, begging for his blessings.

Sant Satramdas Sahib said, “Kanwar, your fever is because of that cap which was offered as an offering to Parmatma during the prayers, but you kept it for yourself. Small sins turn into bigger ones. That day you had the greed for that cap, and tomorrow your greed will increase for something else, and then for money. And one day, when people come to us for Bhakti and prayers in the name of Parmatma, we will be greedy for the offerings we receive for the poor and needy children of God. Instead of getting blessings from the place of Bhakti, we will carry guilt with us. We went for prayers to sing in praise of our Lord and to receive blessings from people, but you came back with pain, sorrow, greed and a valueless cap. This means, instead of blessings, you have guilt with you. Now you give that cap to a needy person and get relief from the guilt that is troubling you in the form of fever.”

Feeling guilty and realizing his mistake, Bhagat Sahib immediately gave the cap to a needy person and felt better instantly. He asked Sant Satramdas Sahib to bless him so that he never commits such a mistake again.

Sacho Satram.
