At the young age, Saint Satramdas Sahib went on a pilgrimage. After taking bath, the Pundits over there asked him to keep /leave something as a dakshina which was a custom. Saint Satramdas Sahib said “ this custom of leaving something which is materialistic in nature while on pilgrimage, came into practice long back.

But before that practice the custom of leaving something behind was not of any materialistic thing, but a person used to take an oath to leave behind his bad habits or improprieties . But as times changed things like, greed, possessiveness, hatred, jealousy, discrimination etc started dominating the man and people got so much used to these wrong habits that they became slaves of these habits and did not want to part with them and then they started the custom of leaving some materialistic things instead of bad habits behind them while on the pilgrimage.

Slowly and slowly this custom became popular and people forgot the actual practice”. Sai Satramdas sahib told Pundit ji that instead of leaving a materialist thing he would like to a leave a bad habit . Saint Satramdas Sahib said, that he will get rid of speaking lies. Pundit ji was shocked and remained quiet. He did not know what to do and what to say. He was surprised and was wondering that how this young man knows about the very old customs of leaving behind the bad habits while on the pilgrimage .Pandit ji realised that this young boy was not an ordinary human being but a great spiritual personality. While Punditji was absorbed thinking about Saint Satramdas Sahib, an old man, a yogi whose forehead was shining brightly and had a long white beard which was suiting his divine face, appeared from somewhere and looked at child Satramdas and touched his feet. He said, that he himself did not know for how long he had been meditating.

He said, that everyday he asked God to bless him with his auspicious sight, his true divine form, and on that day while meditating he witnessed a strange kind of light which he said he cannot describe but he said that he heard a voice in that light which said, “A true descendent of God has arrived who has an spiritual illumination on his forehead and whose name is ‘Satram’,and asked him to go and meet him and then only he will get free from the clutches of the cycle of birth and death and will attain eternal oneness. That divine voice also said that he should go and honor him with the word SACHO (truthful) with SATRAM on its behalf and tell the whole mankind that HE is SACHO SATRAMDAS and everyone should address him by this pious name. All human beings shall chant his name and adopt the path of truth showed by him, because, those who will chant his name will achieve their‘true Eternal destination’”. This name was actually one of the names of God. The one who chants this name will be actually chanting the name of God” This holy man of such a divine and radiant personality bestowed the title ‘Sacho Satram’ upon Sai Satramdas Sahib.

Truthful – trustworthy.

Satram – Present in each and every part.

Meantime so many holy people, Pundits came together and made child Satramdas sit on a higher seat of honor and they themselves sat at his feet and cleared many of their doubts.

Sacho Satram.
